Good point! @emile, would you please add the Harmony Hub App to the list?
  • Hi,
I've the harmony Ultimate (with hub) and a homey. If there is something you want to have tested let me know
That would be great @MennoVanDerAat ! I'll let you know when I have something. Would you be able to setup a VPN, so I can do some remote testing as well?

@Fire69 I have a Ultimate Touch right now.
If you don't need the physical remote, I would just by the hub instead of buying something second hand.
But I only use the app in 'emergencies' (too lazy to get up and use the remote  :p ) because I don't really like the app.

Too bad your Touch doesn't have RF...

In the Trello info ticket he asks contributing members to send him and email at emile at athom.com. He is probably flooded with forum notifications and wont notice this request here ..
  • Too bad your Touch doesn't have RF...
True. But then again, that wouldn't help me in getting Homey to control my IR devices.

I have the Harmony Ultimate Touch and it does have RF. I use it together with the hub which is in a closed cabinet. It's actually sold together with the hub, see for instance: http://www.tvstore.nl/product/329799/logitech-harmony-ultimate.html

You're right. I made a mistake, I have a Ultimate One. Without RF.

    Done!
  • Looks like I just bought an ex-geek's Homey. Hopefully in a few days actual development and first testing will commence!
  • Hi Brinkie,

Nice to hear you bought a homey. If you don't get him in a few days I can setup a VPN for you I think
    Welcome to the club!

    hi @Bumblez or others:
So what's the real benefit of having a Hub, next to having a Harmony Remote already?
(that is: if I don't care that much of using my smartphone as a remote and so I can leave that away)

Apart of the smartphone functionality, for me the fact that it uses a more reliable RF technology meaning I don't have to aim the remote to the IR receiver and that I can have all the equipment out of sight in a closed cabinet. Next to that it can also integrate with domotica controllers over LAN. Domoticz for instance already supports this. And finally, the hub itself is getting more domotica integration, I can control my Lifx light for instance through the remote and the hub. But once I get my Homey stuff like that should become obsolete.
Yeah, that RF functionality is awesome.
In addition, the Hub allows you to use the remote to control devices over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth (the remote by itself can't do that). So it makes it possible to control for example Philips Hue, Nest, Homeywell thermostats, Apple TV, Sonos, etc.
    See also https://support.myharmony.com/en-nl/compatibility
But then, Homey will be able to do the same...

I bought the Smart Control at amazon.de for 65€.  If you don't need an advanced remote, that's a real catch.  Don't know if you can buy just the hub for that price!
@Fire69 The hub that comes in the Smart Control package, is that the 'red' or the 'green' one in this comparing page: http://www.logitech.com/nl-nl/harmony-remotes/&view=498&compProducts=11688,10737 ?

It's the red one. The green one is the 'older' one that was included/available with the Harmony Ultimate (Touch) remote. But, as Fire69 said, it's hard to find out exactly what the differences are.

Okay, but how can you tell the difference then? How do you know it's the red one?
  • If you order tbe non-ultimate, cheaper model, you should be ok, as far as I could find out...
  • You mean the 'ultimate' (b/c that is the cheaper model) ?
(logitech's made it pretty confusing if you ask me...)
  • Jon said:

Well, the red one is the one that's included with the Harmony Elite. At the time of release, the checkboxes in those columns (Home Automation, macros, media streaming...) were major advertising points for the Harmony Elite hub. Hardware wise, I don't think the difference is all that big, and apparently, with the latest firmware, the Harmony Ultimate hub (the green one) can basically do the same stuff, too...
  • It's very confusing.
Where did you check? At Amazon.de the non-ultimate is cheaper. At .fr it's the other way around...

Even at Amazon.de the ultimate version is cheaper:
    http://www.amazon.de/Logitech-Ultimate-Harmony-Hub-schwarz/dp/B00JBBD87G/     (EUR 68.-)
    http://www.amazon.de/Logitech-915-000262-Harmony-Hub/dp/B014GXQ9YW/    (EUR 107.90)

    On Amazon.de.
But on Amazon it's not (clearly) stated at all which one you will receive...
For example this one: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00JBBD87G/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=, it has item number 915-000218, which should be the green one from the compare-sheet.
And the red one should be http://www.amazon.de/Logitech-915-000262-Harmony-Hub-Schwarz/dp/B014GXQ9YW/ref=dp_ob_title_ce.
(i agree on what @Bumblez says hereabove)

I want to buy the '915-000218' / Green one. But hesitate if this one has RF capabilities and can control my Hue bulbs and Wii (1st generation). Any advice?

Oops... just re-read this question. I think the answer to this particular question is, neither.
I misunderstood. The version that comes with the Elite package is the red one.
Apparently there was another version of the hub, before the Harmony Ultimate and Harmony Elite versions.
Apparently you can use the Smart Control hub with an Ultimate (RF-capable) remote, but at the moment, I don't know anything else about that version of the hub...

The green (Ultimate) one should definitely be okay for the Wii. All I can say about the Hue part, is that according to some posts by users on the Logitech forum, this functionality should be available with the latest firmware version. But so far I have read nothing about people actually using the Home Automation functionality with the Ultimate hub, so it's a big "should be"...

They are both sold and dispatched by Amazon, so if it's not ok, just send it back  :#

There's even another more expensive one, the Harmony Home hub. This one has support for zigbee and z-wave through an extender...

    Logitech loves complicating things...

From what I've read, the Extender (as well as the Smart Keyboard) should work with the Elite version of the hub as well... it wouldn't surprise me if they work with any version of the hub. I believe that the different Hub models are just different builds of the exact same device... except that Logitech doesn't make it clear at all what the differences between those builds are.

The different builds/model numbers I've come across so far:

915-000196  - included with Harmony Smart Control package
    915-000218  - Harmony Ultimate Hub
    915-000238  - Harmony Home, USA (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/harmony-hub)
    915-000262  - Harmony Elite Hub

  • That's what I mentioned earlier, they probably all use the same api, so one app would be ok for all hubs.
Maybe the different models support some extra stuff, but the basics (activity, channel, volume) will all be the same I guess...
  • Agreed. I too believe that one app should be able to cover all of them. It might even be that some of these models are exactly the same, hardware wise, and that the only difference is that they are delivered with the (at that time) latest version of the firmware built in...

I looked into this a bit more, and it's official. Logitech rolled out a firmware upgrade earlier last year, that adds smart home functionality to all available hub models.

    For more details, see
    http://www.slashgear.com/logitech-updates-all-harmony-hub-remotes-to-control-your-smart-home-26385233/
    https://support.myharmony.com/en-nl/harmony-software-upgrade-4-x

[Edit] the naming in the release log of their firmware updates ( http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Harmony-Hub-Based-Remotes/Harmony-Release-Notes-UPDATED-February-1st/td-p/1042729 ) also seems to point in the direction of all the hubs being (nearly) identical. Originally they called it "Harmony Hub firmware", then "Home Hub firmware", but since the above mentioned firmware update that synchronizes the features for all the hub versions (in May 2015), they simply talk about "Hub firmware".

  • Thanks for looking into this guys. I'll focus on developing the app for the Hub in the Harmony Elite package, as that's what I currently have and expect it to work on the other hubs as well.
  • Just ordered the Homey today, but I'm willing to test if you want.
I have the Harmony Smart Control.

I'm not a developer myself, but I'm willing to contribute
  • Hi @Will would you mind checking on the hub belonging to your smart control combo what the model number is? It should be something like '915-000218' or similar.
    Thanks in advance!
