(bit urgent) Which thermostaats are supported?

JonJon Member
hi all (and especially Homey's founders),

As I am having an installation - next week - of a new general heating (CV-ketel in Dutch) plus a new thermostaat, I'd like to know which types of thermostaat are going to be supported by Homey ?
Is this the case for Essent's "E-thermostaat" ?
I'd appreciate to know more asap because i need to decide before the end of this week which one I need to order. Thanks so much!!

  • Do you support Nefit easy also?
  • Essent's E-thermostaat works with a portal. There is currently a plugin for Vera that works with the e-thermostaat. It uses the portal on the internet. I should think that the Homey can easily be programmed to work with it. Well, I hope :)
  • I have a Tado (http://www.tado.com/de-en/), which works with a portal and will have IFTTT integration

I see on E-thermostaat's site the following:

So the question is basically: will Homey will get support for ICY-Net (which I doubt, b/c it's a propriety protocol...)

I don't think that's the question. If a plugin is written for Vera, it also can be done for the Homey.

The ICY E-thermostaat communicates with a hub which communicates to a WiFi access point. The specs say it can be controlled through the portal (e-thermostaat.nl). The plugin for Vera uses xml-files, probably to communicate with the portal. So I guess it can be done :-)

Okay, thanks. I am not familiar with Vera, but understand your point though.
Then still the question is whether the guys behind Homey will bring support or some other developer? Maybe they can jump in at this topic?

Your best choice would be the Nest thermostat. Please note that you have to import it from the UK.

We will support more thermostats, but I can't guarantee that right now, as negotiations with manufacturers are still going.

    Hi Emile,
Why import a thermostat from the UK? if there is a Dutch alternative, the Nefit Easy.
Works with opentherm protocol and accessible via IP.

  • You can order the Nest thermostat by www.amazon.co.uk. It will be sent to The Netherlands with no extra costs. Very nice device!
  • these thermostats still are not opentherm, they are typical on/off stats but with a learning ability. still not the most efficient way to control your heating.

Another problem with Nest is that the onboard relays are only 24V, so you then need to wire to additional relays between the thermostat and heating equipment.

Let Homey control a Nefit Easy ! The thermostat with opentherm protocol and WiFi

Just FYI: i went for the (Essent) E-thermostaat. Also usable without being an Essent customer (like me). Although not real built-in Wifi, it support remote control over a web portal and mobile app, so hopefully this will be something that Homey can be hooked up to.

Jonathan, thanks! We'll keep in touch with you and essent, to see how hard it would be to support it!
  • I'am usiing the E-thermostaat too. Now in combination with de mios vera. I hope the Honey wil support it too.
Much information can be found at forum.micasaverde.com for almost every device in homeautomation.
  • Is already known whether Homey will support a Honeywell Chronotherm Wireless which communicates via 868 mHz?
  • EmileEmile Administrator, Athom
Gert-Jan, we're not yet 100% sure, though is highly likely ;-)
  • I have a Green Momit Smart Thermostat because Nest is not supported with my boiler.

    http://greenmomit.com/thermostat.html

It's a wifi thermostat with mobile and web App and I want to know if could be posible to integrate with Homey.

    Thanks.
  • Hey Homey,
In the fourth quarter of this year there will be a software update available for the Nefit easy thermostat that may operate through a web browser. Is it possible for Homey to take control and regulate the temperature in my room?
  • EmileEmile Administrator, Athom
Prooooobably, but I can't promise you as we don't know how it works yet :)
  • Hello Emile,

Did you have time to work on the Honeywell EvoHome subject yet?
  • Hi Marius,

We are currently getting in touch with Honeywell to discuss the possibilities about working together to support their EvoHome and Round thermostats. We will look at both the external API and direct 868 communication, but some of the protocols they use are proprietary.

We were warned by the Dutch representative we spoke that it might take some time as Honeywell is a rather large, and therefore less responsive, company, but we'll do our best to get to then as fast as possible. When we have more information on this topic well get right back to you in this topic!

    Best,

    Stefan
  • What about ThermoSmart? (www.thermosmart.nl) Have it & love it. They have an api and I can imagine they are will to teamup.
  • EmileEmile Administrator, Athom
@hnijveen, we'll be glad to implement it once they release their API!
  • Thanks Emiel. ThermoSmart just informed me you two (Homey & ThermoSmart) will work together to get it done (somewhere in 2015). That is great news!
  • Hi Emiel, on the website it is now indicated that Homey officially supports Thermosmart. Could you please indicate what kind of functionality you support? The same functionality as the app from Thermosmart but then via the Homey app, or added functionality such as a 'geo-fencing' functionality which I think Thermosmart does not offer?
  • EmileEmile Administrator, Athom
    Emile* ;-)

We support adjusting the temperature and setting an external temperature source (e.g. NetAtmo Weather Station).
GeoFencing is integrated in Homey, so you'd just configure the Thermosmart in the flow editor "When you are close to home"
  • Thanks EmiLE (sorry, do not know if I just copied the post above or inverted the last letters when typing ;-)) for the quick reply, think that also will be a good privacy solution considering the geo fencing then takes place on Homey and thus 'locally'.
  • Hi,

Any updates on support for Nefit Easy?
