Cheap doorbell to actually be a doorbell

In various posts and a video a cheap 433 MHz doorbell is suggested and used to trigger a flow.

My dumb doorbell needs a replacement as it tend to get stuck so I was looking for solutions. There are some costly zwave solutions out there, often with intercom and camera. I don't really care for those. I'd just like a chime to ring and perhaps get a notification on my phone.

The Aeon Labs ZW056 Z-Wave Plus Doorbell Gen5 seems like a nice zwave solution but I think is not available outside the US yet. And still pretty expensive compared to the cheap solution I'd like to know more about.

Would it be possible to replace the doorbell with one of those cheap doorbells that keep getting mentioned and have Homey play chime when the button is pressed (and perhaps do other things).

Any other suggestions on a smart doorbell that works with Homey are welcome as well ...

Kika acdb-7000b is a cheap 433 mhz device that can be used behind a existing cheap normal doorbell.

Homey should be able to retreive its signal and do something with it.
  • I would think that should work, as a wireless doorbell button is a working input to Homey and it can also output sound. It could also flash lights for you if you have Hue or a remote controlled switch...
  • Assuming you are dutch, check this forum topic where you can read how to keep the origional bell plus activate the sensor i've linked above and make homey do something.

Thanks p0nts, I had already seen similar tweak solutions online but I'm not very good when it comes to soldering and electric schemes and all that. I'm looking for a more out-of-the-box solution. But there are plenty of options that work on 433 MHz out there, as long is this works I wont be hard to find something that suits me.

Just buy a doorbell (we use Alecto and have them already working), and they'll keep working as normal. Homey just notices when they go off, and then can do something with that information, e.g. flash the lights or send a push notification to your phone (or only when you're not at home) :-)

Thanx Robin, that might actually be of use as I decided to keep my existing doorbell but add a smart device to it. I have looked at a solution with a COCO device but Zwave will be better.

    My thoughts exactly.
I want everything to continue to work if internet, my local network or, in the exceptionally case, if Homey fails.

  • I will also try to use a KaKu . Then I want to get a push message to my phone and sonos may create the bell sound . What I was wondering is when I get my Homey got inside and I want to play with FIBARO then I do not need at home center FIBARO . This function has homey right?
  • Was just paring the Alecto to the Homey. It was recognized very quickly and appears in the devices list. But when I add it to a new flow. Nothing happened. I tried the button 'pressed' and 'released' event. I'm running Homey 0.8.17 and using this doorbel: http://www.alecto.nl/draadloze-deurbel-16

In the appstore it is mentioned that the ADB-12 is not supported, does that also apply to the ADB-16?

    Anyone else got this working?
  • People from Athom: which version are you using? I still have the same issue with this doorbell.
  • Does Homey works with https://ring.com ?

I have this working, it's great that it works even without an controller

A couple of months ago, I bought a doorbell at Action, also because it was 433mhz and I thought that I could use it with Homey maybe.
    Only cost me 5€

Which doorbell did you buy/have and do the work with Homey?

Our current Elro isn't working and want to buy a new one..
  • I myself used the KlikAanKliKUit doorbell on our Office:
    https://www.bol.com/nl/p/klikaanklikuit-draadloze-deurbel-met-spatwaterichte-drukknop-acdb-7000ac/9200000008211960/

Got it working in like 0.1 seconds with Homey. Too bad they only seem to sell it in packages with the receiver as well.

Added a soundboard dingdong to it, works very good.

Byron / Smartwares with this number but even simpeler, just one sound...

Just tried but this isn't working yet... Guess we need to get the code first but afaik it should be able to work (hopefully cause I hate the sound of this bell)

Emile could you program Alecto app so that I can send a signal in the then section. I've got a receiver (doorbel) who uses this protocol and i want to switch it
  • I have bought a Kaku acdb-7000b which I have hooked up to my regular doorbell circuit using a relay. Until now I have been unable to pair it. Did manage to switch a kaku socket with it. I'll do some more testing with the new kaku app but I'm away from home for a week so this will take some time

Same setup except I use the acdb-7000bc.
Dunno if that's a big difference but it works like a charm here. Is working for like 2 weeks on 0.8.29

Is there any solution if you just want to replace your "bell" that is connected via wires to the button by a z-wave device? Not the button itself.

Doorbell from Action, brand is SelectPlus, there isn't even a modelnumber on it  :D
Not yet working with Homey, hope they include the code learning soon.
I'm pretty sure it's not encoded, my neighbor had to return his new doorbell this week because it rang when we had visitors!  :#

    See this project: http://www.robbshop.nl/over-z-wave/z-wave-projecten/z-wave-deurbel
  • Just bought a ACDB-7000AC and it worked right away.
    Created a flow;

And that also works like a "charm", where in some cases Homey reacts maybe 0,5-1 sec later then the doorbell itself.

Great solution and WAF is pretty high!
(WAF would be times 2 if Homey could play the wav to our JBL Bluetooth speaker).

And if you want KAKU you can do it with this

I have a ACDB-700A and this works great.
You can buy it here (only the button)

  • We don't have a fixed doorbell and mainly because of the AC-AC transformator is very power inefficient.
But the relay could be very nice addition to a fixed doorbell.
  • U can even play the MP3 on ur Sonos speakers if u like (well, at least i do) with the http get app.
  • Rocodamelshe Would you be so kind to share with us how you do that?

  • I have some Sonos php code running on my synology and call it in a flow with a http get command. That way I also mute sonos after "ok homey" since my homey is standing about 10 cm away from my sonos playbar.
