Fibaro Motion Sensor (FGMS-001), not possible to add to Homey

  • Hello all. Today I also received a Fibaro motion sensor (FGMS-001 Zwave Plus V3.2).

Adding the device to Homey worked good. However, make sure you put the Fibaro motion sensor right next to the Homey when adding it (otherwise it most likely fails the device interview).

However, I still have some questions about the device
    - What is the effect of the Z-Wave associations settings?
    - What is the effect of the Z-Wave wake up settings?
    - What is the effect of the Z-wave Configuration settings?
    - What is the effect of the polling settings

Furthermore, I noticed that I have 4 variables in Insights. 1 Generic Alarm 2 Luminance 3 Temperature 4 Battery. I still miss the variable motion.

Is it an idea to start a fresh Fibaro motion sensor FGMS-001 owners topic where people can post tips and tricks and that the topic starters summarizes everything in the opening post.
  • I don't have a Fibaro motion sensor, but Aeotec's MultiSensor and when that one was working on 0.8.29 the Generic Alarm was triggered when motion was detected.

Correct. with the Fibaro motion sensor the generic alarm is triggered when motion is detected

@Jesper Do you have 0.8.29 or 0.8.30? Does the motions sensor part works smoothly?

Yes indeed an explanation of those settings would be helpful.
  • Motion sensor works smooth here.
  • The motion sensor seems to work here. I let Homey say whenever motion is detected to test it and when you walk in front of the sensor it will say motion detected. However, if you walk in front of the sensor 2 times in for example 10 seconds it will not let me know motion is detected the second time. Does somebody know how to set the settings to let it report every motion?

Furthermore, my battery level dropped suddenly to 81%  :o. In insight I have a battery level record of 100% and a minute later a battery level of 81%. Is this just error caused by the settings of the motion sensor which I changed multiple times? Anybody else also saw something like this with their motion sensor?

Check the manual of the Fibaro motion sensor... the motion sensor has a blind time (parameter 2) and also a cancellation delay (parameter 6) of several seconds.
Just look at at the info panel of the motion sensor in the devices section. When motion is detected the generic alarm and motion sensor icon will flash red.. once the alarm has been cancelled, both return to black.

If I'm correct, Homey will only trigger a flow if Generic alarm state will change from rest to alarm. A second motion will extend the alarm, but not trigger a flow generic alarm state is already in alarm stat.
  • @Jesper Do you really have the V3.2 and motion is working? Because I've 2 motion sensors (V3.2), I can add them finally with firmware 0.8.30. But the generic alarm stays always on. Do you have some parameters set? Do you have a group set? I get a little frustrated after already waiting for a month to add it. When I push the button temperature and light are send correct. So it seems to work, but the only (important) thing: movement is not working. ;-(
  • @Jesper Never mind. I've reset the sensor again and only added 1 to all groups. And it works!! finally.
  • I received my Homey a couple of days ago and starting to set up my zWave Network. Howevery I also have problems to pair my Homey with the Sensor V3.2. I put the Sensor right beside of Homey and start pairing. Device was found, but during the Interviewing stage it got stuck and suddenly the error message that another pairing session is still active is popping up. Afterwards it is completely stuck and I need to unplug Homey from power. No idea what I am doing wrong. Homey Firmware Version is 0.8.29
  • You need 0.8.30, 0.8.29 is not working.

Thanks, done. But now Homey cannot find the Sensor as new device when putting to the Sensor to learn mode.

I have 0.8.30 and couple V3.2 Fibaro Multisensor Gen5. I can add it to Homey but nothing happens after that. The values are constant, not updating the alert, light level, temp, battery. Also the device is not available/displayed in the insight.
I see that some could make it work. Could you please let us know how? Maybe some step/step list, screenshot would be helpful.
    Thanks.
  • Okay, worked now to pair. I had to do a reset of the sensor.
  • I am struggling now with the correct settings of teh Sensor. Which ones I have to use for V3.2? Thank you.

My new Fibaro mult v3.2. could be paired to Homey (v. 0.8.30) without any problem. Since then I had sometimes good results with all four functions according to Insights, but also sometimes it gave no results at all. There seems to be not a clear explanation for those changing results. But anyhow, for the moment I can live it and I would like to continue experimenting.
My question for the moment is where I can find more details about the five "associations" in Homey. See the screendump. Who knows more?
    Many tnx in advance!

@JanH check the manual of Fibaro (v3.2) and or their website... Pretty much all settings are explained in more detail.

See Fibaro Motion Sensor v3.2 manual ;;http://manuals.fibaro.com/motion-sensor/
Note for v2.7 (or below)... use the corresponding manual (they ARE different)

This site also contains the basic operating instructions (including movies) of this sensor B)

Tnx for your quick response. I already did read through that manual but I really could not understand much of it. I cannot compare the necessary settings for the 5 "groups" in my Homey screen to the 89 (!) parameters mentioned in the manual. For example, I just have filled in group 1 with parameter 1, the rest of the groups is empty. What does this mean according to the manual?
  • @JanH See page 10 of the manual:
Association allows direct transfer of control commands between devices, is performed without participation of the main controller and requires associated device to be in direct range.
With these groups it should (no experience yet) be possible to link a specific function of the sensor (e.g. motion) directly to another Z-wave node (without main controller in between)... e.g. to switch on a lamp for security purposes.

The different types of association groups are explained on the same page.

With the 89 parameters, you can control the reaction of the motion sensor... e.g. the "alarm cancellation delay", parameter 6 which is the time after a motion has been detected before the alarm is reset (default 30 sec)...

If you would connect a lamp directly to the motion sensor (via the association groups), you can control with this parameter the time the lamp will remain on...

@TedTolboom Tnx very much! I completely misunderstood the meaning of "data" under Z-wave configuration! Now a lot becomes clear, especially the syntax of "parameter, size, value". This makes clear that I'm a starter in this protocol.
    Tnx again!

    So I have 0.8.30 firmware and v3.2 Fibaro Gen5.
Adding went smoothly. » I restarted the sensor. » Alert, temp, lux appeared the insight page. » restarted homey » battery has appeared in the insight page.
And here I am stuck. The values are not updated I have only the values what the sensor has sent after the pairing. There is no communication between the sensor and homey as visibly the LED settings are still the default. Here are my settings:

I have tried these: Restart chip, reset sensor, wake up, restart homey, wipe homey. No luck.
Distance between the devices are 50 cm. Has tried with two different sensor both v3.2.

    WHAT am I missing?
  • I can imagine (don't know...) you're stress-testing the sensor too much: 1 second alarm cancellation, 1 second illumination report, 10 seconds temperature interval and 10 seconds interval for reading the settings?
  • honeyhoney Member
Those are not my final settings. I set those because the values are never updated. And also to see if these settings are sent to the sensor, but not because the LED still active the blind time is the same. I have tried without those settings and group associations as well. No luck.

    Please help.

As you probably have seen I am far from a specialist but I studied the manual quite intense. Though I like to suggest the following settings to start with.
    1. Change the wake up interval to 1800
    2. Throw away all data so the device will be in the standard setting
    3. Make the polling interval empty, so not 1
    4. Uncheck the secure point
To let these settings start immediately take the device close to Homey and push once at the inside button.
If and when you get the first expected outcome you could start changing the data as you wish.

I have tried with these settings before but had no luck. I have tried again, however I can`t uncheck the secure point and polling was never 1. Still no luck.

Have you managed to uncheck the secure point?

It seems I am also doing something wrong since I can also not uncheck the secure tick. What I am doing wrong?
  • JanHJanH Member
@honey Sorry, I should have written down to empty the polling interval. And about the secure point, fortunately I never checked the secure point so I donot know how to uncheck it. I'm not gonna try it now I know about your problem and @Vagabond 's.
And my advise is to put value 1 at group 1 under associations, the others empty if there is no secondary relation with other devices. See also the complete manual for v3.2 at fibaro.com.

Did you already go through the manual at manuals.fibaro.com ? Try the advanced setup things under nrs 1-9, maybe there you could find the solution. Sorry if I kicked in an open door (Van Gaal statement) with this answer

Yep. I even set it to "night detection"only. Still active 24/7..
