Door buzzer with Homey / Alternative to Nello (Monkey)

You might have seen Monkey on Kickstarter, which is a device that make your intercom smart:

https://www.nello.io/one

Is there an alternative way how you could realize this with Homey? I think geofencing should be possible via IFTTT. However, is there a piece of hardware that is able to open and close an electric contact? I first thought of something like the fibaro relais switches, but it requires 220V and I don't want to have that in my intercom. Ideally it should be battery operated...

  • Normally a electric door opener uses 12-28V ac/dc, depending on the model and coil what's inside. So you could use a Fibaro relais switch or binary sensor , placing it where the transformer (for unlocking door) is located (located at the fusebox, dutch: meterkast). When a relais switch is used, switching the 12-28V ac/dc could then be done by using the contact of a extra 230Vac relais, controlled by Fibaro relais.

This extra relais can be small by using a, so called, Relay Interface Module, like the Finder 38 series (230Vac) or a Print Board Relais.

When an binary sensor is used, you have to have a power supply witch 12V-24Vdc and use the corresponding relais.

A wiring example for a doorbell can be found on Robbshop (Dutch). When switching the 'bell' with the doorlock-coil and the doorbell pushbutton with a button to unlock, you have an example how the wiring could be done.

When wired you can make flows to control it. Be aware that the doorlock coil never should be activated longer then necessary, meaning the relais never should be activated longer then 20 seconds. Otherwise the coil could be damaged.

I hope I got you started.

  • I think you have to be very careful with your intercom, especially in a shared building...

BTW there might be some info in the other topic https://forum.athom.com/discussion/398/smart-intercom-monkey-on-kickstarter#latest (Monkey was renamed to Nello later on)

    You're absolutely right @jorden !
Maybe @G4nd41f  can indicate what is currently used on his premises?
  • I didn't know that the fibaro universal sensor also had some outputs. That makes it quite easy.
  • @G4nd41f be careful with the outputs they can only be switched by the inputs of the Binary sensor themselves, not from the outside (like homey can't close the outputs)
