If you want his take on how everything went with 0.10.0, wait for his 'Software Status' update post at the end of this week.
I've once tried IOS7 Beta 1, did a cloud back-up, ended up that is was stock on iOS 7 beta with a non-functional iPhone for 4 weeks. If I wanted to go back to "stable" iOS 6 I had to start from scratch.
Hopefully, 10.1 is going to be stable if released. When you untick automatic updates you're simply not forced to do an update. You can wait until the next "stable" version is available and install this manually. If 10.1 is going to be experimental and than stable, no software changes are made.
Beta users are given the option to install software which might break Homey.
