Does Homey have the ability to answer questions or look up info?

In the demo you can ask Homey what the weather is like, can you also ask other questions, maybe to look up facts or something similar?

I'm wondering too because in my opinion it is the only reason to talk to a device.

Yes, we're working on integration with Wolfram Alpha!
  • Awesome! :)
  • Wolfram Alpha only works in English right?

How will that work when homey is set to Dutch?
  • EmileEmile Administrator, Athom
That is true. If you happen to know a knowledge service that does offer this kind of functionality multi-language, please let me know! :)
  • I'll definitely do that :) Any chance that you could still aks questions in english to get answers, even if Homey's language is set to Dutch? So that Homey will respond to Dutch as well English voice commands ?

Not when we're launching, but it's something I really want to support :) Detecting the language is hard though!

Why aren't you using Google's then? Google Now seems to handle this functionality rather well.

But cant we make some kind of
Flow with: hey homey, question, [question].
So in this case question is the trigger word for a wolfram look up and homey knows those questions are always in English. independ of homeys chosen language?

That's how an app would work, but the problem is that we're expecting you to talk Dutch, for example, when your Homey is set to Dutch. So the speech to text conversion is the hardest part here!

Ah so no override of the expected input language via the API? Might be a useful feature in this case because for wolfram input always should be English?
  • Wolfram Alfa! Really! That has such a huge potential.
It fact that you guys are even trying it is groundbreaking.

Maybe a trigger to switch Homey to English like:

"Homey, overschakelen naar Engels" (Translation: Homey, switch to English)

"Homey, how tall is the Golden Gate Bridge?"

I foresee problems here when you try to play music or watch a movie.
"Homey, start de film Avengers Age of Ultron"
He won't understand a word of the title, will he? :)

He does! Dynamic titles like that are very well recognized. That's one of the main reasons for us to use cloud speech recognition.

Great! I was afraid we were only going to be able to watch Dutch movies :-P

  • We would be done in a week and out of boredom start developing apps for Homey.
    I'd say great!

  • Is Wikipedia not an option for homey to look for answers ?
