compatibility with new kickstarter projects

Good morning all,

As many of us we are very eager to see what Homey is capable of, but in the meantime we are backing new kickstarter projects and wondering if Homey will be able to communicate with the device.

In order to get a single spot to deposit all our newly backed projects and to know if they will work with Homey I created this discussion.

  • NEEO just reached their last stretchgoal of 1.200.000! (With a pledge of 50k). That includes IFTTT, REST API and other cool stuff so I really really really hope it would be possible to just use their remote to control Homey besides the speech recognicton!

If someone could tell me that it'll be possible to do this, I'll back NEEO straight away. Otherwise, maybe in the near future when it'll be possible to just buy their remote without the brain...

It might be possible, but I doubt that it will work anywhere near smooth..
  • Emile, could you please elaborate a bit on the 'near smooth' remark? If it just sends a REST request to homey it should work immediately, right?
  • I'd also like to see integration with NEEO, it's a perfect combination...

@Michael, that totally depends on how their system works. It's not as simple as 'sending a REST request'. And I wonder if their remote is even open for integration. If they really can build such a device for $99, it probably doesn't have too much processing power, which is needed for an open architecture.
  • I wish it was 99! My pledge is $249.

The stretched goal was a fully documented api.
A public REST API that lets you control devices in your NEEO setup from other systems on your local network. The API features will be nicely documented on the web available to everyone.
Custom HTTP commands that let you control any device with an HTTP interface on your local network. These commands can be used in actions, rules or in the UI. Import, export and share them.
  • Isn't neeo the simpele version of Homey? Perhaps I'm a bit shortsighted, but I don't see additional benefits compared tot an app or homey. Which benefits do you guys expect?
  • Only advantage would be that there is a dedicated remote with touch and full color screen.
But Homey can listen to your voice and for all other circumstances my laptop/phone/tablet will do the trick IMHO.

There are still times when a remote is useful, hence, we'd like to see some integration if at all possible. I believe there are a few people who have backed both projects - there is a good reason for that, there's also a good reason NEEO exceeded 1 million. On another note, I'm far more excited about Homey :-)

Is it confirmed Homey will have a web accessible UI, in addition to the apps?

    It is confirmed :)
  • I too am very much hoping I can use my NEEO as a slightly dumb remote control for homey, ie to pause quickly without needing to utter a word, if for example others have already gone to sleep during a movie.

As well as a web UI homey will have an API, so I'd have thought, like the others are saying, they could work together, sure it won't be perfect but simple functions should be OK.

    Thanks, James.
