Your question that you are curious if Homey can be used throughout the whole house, is: Yes, you can also use a tablet or phone to control Homey. The controlled devices can ofcourse also be spread out through the house. They have not promised standalone microphone extenders for Homey as such.

[Mind you, they request you to speak only English in these forums. If you don't speak English, they invite you to e-mail Stefan or Emile directly.]
  • @ oeigeman: You can control your Homey via your WiFi network in your house. As long as you are within the range of your network you can control your Homey. If you are a bit handy with setting up port forwarding etc. it is also possible to control Homey from anywhere in the world. As long as you have an internet connection.

Your smartphone doesn't nessecary need to be connected to your Wi-Fi network. Any network (Wi-Fi or Mobile) will work.
  • Emile, how is this technologically done? A proxy through Athom? With end-to-end SSL or something? (I hope...)

Yes, we proxy data through our cloud servers. And it's SSL encrypted! If you may have noticed, all of our websites (such as this forum) are also SSL as of this week :)
  • Good, good, very well. We must keep the company's secrets in this public forum as protected as possible. ;-)
  • I have a few ir controlled devices in my living room, how can Homey reach these? Do I need remote extenders or something like that, or do I have to put Homey in their sight and range? Or is the reflection of the ir signal in the room enough?

    Public and Secret! Lol ;-)

  • Emile,
Personally i am not very happy in using third party proxies. But i am sure that homey can be accessed directly without using the proxy right?

I am always connected to my home network using an openvpn connection.
  • It has been said that it would be possible to directly connect to your Homey.
I'm hoping it's still the same.

I'm a IT consultant so I run my own servers/cloud at home and on a data centre.
  • yeah same here. My own cloud (caldav, carddav and webdav), mail server and so on ;)
