Does Homey support a hidden SSID (WiFi)?

In my WiFi, the SSID is hidden because there are a lot of "hackers" which try to log-in 24/7. So I disabled the SSID broadcast. Is this a problem for Homey?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hiding an SSID does not help in any way against hackers; some backgroud info: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28653/debunking-myths-is-hiding-your-wireless-ssid-really-more-secure/
  • I know about this. The point is: The attackers are """hackers""". No professionals. So it's very simple: Hidden SSID = nobody tries to log-in to my WiFi. SSID broadcast enabled = non-stop logins. So it _helps_ in my case.

I also tried to create a white-list for MAC addresses, but when somebody tries to access the WiFi, the router comes back from the "idle" mode only to block the person which tries to log-in. As this happens 24/7, the power usage is much higher.

Thanks for your support but it doesn't answer my question...

Yes it is easy to find hidden SSID if you know how or just google to find out how to do. But to be honest most folks don`t even know that hidden SSIDs do exist. Anyway there are plenty of reasons why you might want to use hidden SSIDs. I am sure that a fair number of homey users (backed by mostly geeks) needs it.
The main philosophy behind homey to support as many system as possible to cover most user cases. Let athom to confirm it.

Yes, you can also enter the SSID and encryption type yourself :)
  • That's great - thank you very much for your quick answer!
