Featured services of Media-Update?

Update 20.01.17:
Emile stated in the software-status thread: https://forum.athom.com/discussion/1430/software-status#latest:
"From the start, Sonos and Heos will be supported as speakers, and SoundCloud, Google Play Music and YouTube as players. There will be a Spotify app, but for now it will only work with a Sonos speaker that has a Spotify account connected already."

Hey, since the media update is comming soon, I thought it would be nice to have a official confirmed list for all services (sources (eg. Spotify) and outputs (e.g. Sonos)) that will be featured at release and if not a short update to their current status and maybe a ETA.
Maybe could @Annemarie give us a update and can confirm some of these in updates mentioned features.

Confirmed? (feaured at release):

 Sources:
- SoundCloud
- Tidal
- Youtube

Outputs:
- Sonos
- Denon Heos
- Bluetooth
- Line-Out

Unconfirmed:

Sources:
- Spotify (waiting for 3rd Party since Jan/2016)
- Deezer (waiting for 3rd Party since Mar/2016)
- Local Sources (e.g. NAS) (Athom stated: "maybe")
- Google Music
- TuneIn
- iTunes

 Outputs:
- Chromecast (they're working on it but no ETA) (licensing?)
- AirPlay (licensing?)

I hope we can get some more information, this could help to prevent disappointments  :)

  • Ok Noob question here, I have My Itunes music MP3 on my NAS will it also be possible to just select your own music source ??
  • Thats not a noob question, I added it to unconfirmed. I found a topic from 2015 where athom stated that they will maybe support this.

But for your current needs maybe the Plex App or the Itunes app in the Appstore could help you. I am not using these apps so I am not fully aware of their capabilities.
  • Sorry thx, need to read better I see it now
  • So no support for Google or Apple music?
  • Not yet confirmed, there are a few posts and Athom would like to add it (stated in 2015).

I will add it to the unconfirmed list.
  • Think iTunes will be supported in the media update. As in, the app builder will probably update it's app to work with the Media API.

    https://apps.athom.com/app/com.apple.itunes
    - Same for Chromecast: https://apps.athom.com/app/com.google.chromecast
  • Is it also possible when you let homey speak, that the output will be on the sonos?
That would be a great feature!!
  • It could be that some sources will be limited to some output:
For example: it is possible to play a Sonos playlist via a http-get (and thus it is possible to implement this in the Sonos app). It is also possible to add Spotify songs to the Sonos playlist. This makes it possible to play Spotify with Sonos (via this workaround). This doesn't mean it is possible to play Spotify with the other outputs.

I think some inputs and outputs depends on the implementation in the general Homey Music app or the implementation in specific apps.
  • @iwan yes this will be possible. but I dont know if it will be supported with the next update. See:
https://forum.athom.com/discussion/comment/6830/#Comment_6830 (Its an indirect answer to your question)

The chromecast app is currently developed by athom and there is no information available ,yet. So I doubt it will be featured at release of media.
I will add Itunes to the unconfirmed list, maybe could @DennieDeGroot share his plans with us if the media update is released.

  • Anything known about Gramofon or Allplay?

I hope the compatible version numbers in the vradio app will be updated: https://github.com/santornl/nl.santor.vradio.homey
    Really missing this app!
    (@santor)
  • Yep as I thought. No answer or information from Athom again. Even for such a easy question that asks for detailed features of the update that will (hopefully as announced) come within one week.
  • I don't think the media update will come even within 3 weeks from now.
And athom even said that maybe Sonos (etc) wouldn't be fully ready on release (even though that was a statement from last year)

We are WAY too excited in this topic of what is about to come in the media update.
Please dim down your expectations as of in this topic it is too high.

And sure we can offer all the options that are out there.. But most stuff on the unconfirmed list (and more) will probably be done by community.

This was exactly the reason I created this topic for. To collect all aviable (very very scattered) information to prevent disappointments that are caused by different advertisements (e.g. Icons of Brands on the Kickstarter-Page) or statements that were made by athom years ago.
My intention was to collect all officialy confirmed features and get them confirmed again because we all know how fast things can change. So this topic should cause the opposite of a hype, but with no official answer it doesn't help anyway.
It was ment to be a little help for athom to pour oil on troubled waters even before the waters become troubled  ;)
  • Nothing is confirmed until @athom releases the new media enabled firmware... So also collecting 'scattered' intel has no added value .... just my 2 cents

If this has no value for you it not means it has no value for anybody. As you said, its your 2 cents.  I think it helps some people to manage their expectations.  :)
If it doesn't help you than this topic isn't meant for you.

  • Indeed! This was helpful. I hope that athom will reply soon.

Just a question, will Squeezeserver (older Logitech devices, but still used a lot) also be supported in the (near) future? Can you add it to your list?
  • There is nothing official from Athom about the Squeezebox but there is already a App in the Appstore:
    https://apps.athom.com/app/uk.co.icefusion.squeezebox

In this case the Media-Update support will be for 99% on the community side. His thread is the best place to ask : https://forum.athom.com/discussion/1424/published-squeezebox-app
  • Thanks @Peao for your respond! I'm already using the app, but I was wondering if it would/could be implemented in Athom's media update.
  • Still no reaction. I hope @Emile will focus on this in the Update tomorrow  :)
  • For now there will be no media update. 1.1.3 is still in dev mode because they got some serieus bugs to fix. With a bit of luck 1.1.3 will be released en then media will come on the horizon again.

  • I mean the 14-day update of this thread https://forum.athom.com/discussion/1430/software-status#latest  :D . And they should already know what will be featured and what not (at release-date)
  • Thanks @Emile  for this update an the software-status thread today! https://forum.athom.com/discussion/1430/software-status#latest  :)

Looking forward for this firmware-update !
