Adding user account

Hi there!
I am relatively new to homey so pardon me for my noobish question.
I added a user account in the Windows Homey setup tool. The user correctly received an e-mail message asking to confirm. However, in order to confirm ghe user needs not only enter an e-mail address but also a password, which the user obviously does not have. Does this mean the user needs to sign up for an Athom account? And if so, how to proceed after having setting up such account, i.e. how will Homey know whether the user is present (assuming the user installed the Homey app on his iphone)? I simply do not understand the precise steps I need to take in order for Homey to know whether my family members are present. Any help is greatly appreciated!
