Multiple light switches for one light

Hi all. New to the forum and very interested in Homey. I do have a question. For some rooms I have multiple light switches to operate the light. Currently I have cocu switches, but the main issue is that it's not possible to turn on the light with one and turn off the light with the other one. Is this setup possible with Homey and z-wave swiches? As a side note, in some cases I will be using the existing wiring and the second switch would be wireless. Any suggestions on which switches to use for this?

  • Forgot to mention. For some lights I only have cables running to the light point. So no cable from the light point to a switch. With homewizard this is possible by adding a receiver. However, I can't seems to find such a receiver using z wave. Does that exist?

  • Should be possible. There are a lot of possibilities.
For example, you could replace your existing bulb with a Hue bulb and use a wireless z-wave switch to control it.
You'd need to give more details if you want an more specific solution.

COCO/KaKu receivers have 6 memory locations. When you point 2 senders to 1 receiver you can turn on the light with one and turn off the light with the other one.

    Thanks for the info.

Am I correct that z-wave doesn't have any receiver similar to http://www.homewizard.be/recepteur-acm1000.html ?

To give an example. I currently have 2 non related lights that are powered by the above receiver with this light switch. There is no cable from the light to the switch. I would like to replace it by z-wave modules.
I also have some lights that have multiple switches for the same light (no cable from light to switch). I would also like to connect them to Homey using z-wave modules. Is this possible or do I need to rely on cocu for this?

With this module it doesn't seem to be possible according to homewizard helpdesk :(
Since I prefer a more uniform look in the house, I use this module with Niko switches appearance instead of their own switches

Sure, that's possible with z-wave. You can use these: http://www.pulse-station.com/nl/product/fibaro-relay-switch-1x2-5kw-fgs-212/

Connect 1 at both your lights. Connect 1 with a standard wall switch. Homey should be able to turn on/off the lights when you push the switch.
If you have no power at the light switch, you can use a wireless z-wave switch instead of the Fibaro-module.

Vesternet has a lot of schematics available for lighting and other uses: http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes

  • @Fire69 Thanks a lot for the info! I'm even more conviced that Homey and Z-wave are the way to go now (although quite expensive compared to cocu).

  • I would suggest to combine both to reduce costs. Use z-wave for the main switch and light and cheap coco/kaku for additional switches and remotes. Homey should be able to combine both so they work well together. After a few weeks you will experience what level of reliability you need and which coco/kaku devices you need to upgrade. The leftover switches can then be used to upgrade the next room.
