Pretty hot looking new TRV - Heat powered charging, no batteries!

Just seen this on Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/313176179/novo-the-smartest-radiator-valve

Looks awesome - have backed. Hoping down the line it'll work with Homey - given that it's wifi and zigbee doesnt seem like it should be too much of a challenge, esp if they hit the API stretch goal!

  • Without even looking at it : Thought about this long time ago already but the temperature-difference probably won't create enough power for wifi I think...

They seem to already have working prototypes - it charges a battery, so presumably so long as the initial charge is there then it's just constant top up when it can?
  • As many have tried before . This will fail. WiFi or other com uses 2 much . It can’t be produced by just the kinetic energie of the heat change .

they do use batteries but those will be drained fast to for WiFi zigbee will last some but the motors to change the heat setting will drain them eventually.

never gonna happen unless they use the heat water flow in the system but that asks 2 much change of the valve for most users
  • Apparently they use a low power communication protocol called thread to communicate between trvs and hub, hub does the WiFi
  • i think it looks interesting.. thanks for sharing
