Can't get homey to actually execute flows

Hello. I own a Homey since today. I activated it, updated it (to 1.3.1) and since I own Philips Hue lights, I started with a simple flow to turn on the lights when sundown is in 20 minutes, so:

If sun down is in 20 minutes
AND Hue is turned off (for each specific light)
THEN turn on light 1, light 2 and light 3.
THEN sind push message to phone.

Saved it, tested it with testing button, it worked. Turned th lights back off and waited. According to google, sundown today was 20.34u. So, according to the flow I made, 20 minutes before it was 20:34, the 3 lights should have turned on and I should've gotten a push notification.

Nothing happened.

Then, to test, I created a flow that did nothing more then:

IF time is 20:32
THEN push notification to phone.

Saved it, tested it, it worked. Then waited for the time to turn to 20:32....nothing. the led ring is displaying colors, I can test it a 100 times, it works every time, but when it has to work for real, without me pushing the test button, it does not work.

I've had Homey sinds 16:00 this afternoon, and I am kinda getting tired of it already. Am I doing something wrong? Why are my flows not working?

  • Can you share a screenshot of the flow with the specific time and the one with the sunset. It sounds it should work indeed but then we can see what you did in the flow how it is at your Homey

Sure I can do that, hang on just a sec.

Probably your Homey has no good location,
Pls check system - location  and on system - settings

    after reading this:
    https://forum.athom.com/discussion/3622/geo-location-doesnt-load/p1

Is location mentioned in Stuff for geeks and date_human is that ok?

    there is the workaround:

Apparently there is a problem here. I also have the issue tht the location screen is not displaying. It keeps on loading but nothing happens. Location is NOT mentioned and date_human is INcorrect. Homey has the correct date, but it thinks the time is 19:21. The field 'timezone' is empty too.

Since both of the flows I have are time dependent, and Homey thinks it is 2 hours earlier than it actually is, this would explain why the flows 'are not working'. The solution for this would be to get Homey to recognize the location. I am reading the first link you posted right now.

    Edit:

So, I used the work around. that worked so far, and also, wenn I now take a look at the Homey Desktop app, clicking on location shows me my actual location (it showed Amsterdam, but now I have it set to the actual city where I live.

Taking a look at the geek settings I now have:

    date2017-08-26T19:32:01.706Z
    date_humanzaterdag 26ste augustus 2017 21:32:26
    timezoneEurope/Amsterdam

I will now go and test the 'time' flow I have again, to see if it works.

It looks like this solved it. When testing the 'time' flow, it actually sends a notification. I set a time to a rounded time, 21:35 and 37 just now. In both cases, I got the notification on my phone, albeit 16 seconds too late. So, When system time on my laptop says it is 21:37:00, nothing happens. However, when system time on laptop says it is 21:37:16 I get the notification.

It seems the system time on my laptop and the system time in Homey have a difference of 16 seconds. But, it IS working, or at least, it looks like is working so far! I will now go and test a hue light flow.

Does not work. I set a time for 1 hue light to turn on, AND send a notification to my phone. Light stayed off, but I got the notification.

What the hell is going on?! Toggling that light from within the Hue app works fine.

Okay, very strange. So, I tried it several times. I got the notification, but the light stayed off. Then I set the light to a delay of 3 seconds. That actually worked. After that I removed the 3 seconds delay, that worked too. Now it simply works?

    1st,  Nice it works!

2nd, Flow trigger at the minute or short after (.00 sec. ) of the system time from Homey. it gets it from Internet servers.
but the Time Tag to use is updated later (sometimes 5 or 10 seconds to late) and at 22:00.04 it still reports 21:59
This is fixed already in the experimental 1.5.0 rc 6  (see https://github.com/athombv/homey/issues/290

3rd, sorry I have no Hue I guess someone else will pick up but don't give up and  Have Phun !
  • There's definitely issues with reliability, seeing similar things with Aeotec switches. Would be nice to have the basic stuff working.

I don't see the link between the problems with Aeotec Z-Wave devices and Hue that works using the bridge. Except that Both devices /apps may have some problems.

    @Just_A_User
There are quite some issues created about the problems with Hue, bot in the Homey issue tracker as the Hue specific issue tracker.
    Fe this one
    https://github.com/athombv/homey/issues/749
    And here https://github.com/athombv/nl.philips.hue/issues
Look if you can find your issue and maybe a solution or workaround.

Knowing you are not alone  and it is already known and reported can maybe help you moving on with building other flows ;-)

Well, I've  tried it a couple more times last night, and it worked every time so far, so at least that's better then yesterday afternoon, when simply nothing was working.

Thanks so much by the way for helping me fix that issue. I would've never figured that out on my own. I have a LOT of questions on how to do stuff, but since me and my wife will be moving to a new house in 5 weeks, after we get back from our honeymoon, I don't want to fiddle around with it too much now, because everything will be different once we have settled in to our new house.

I want to add a couple of Hue lights, but I also want to add a home security system (alarm) and I'm torn between buying all the parts one by one or buying something like Smart Alarm, which apparently also works with Homey. Next to that, I need a couple of sensors for triggering light, and was thinking about Fibaro 4-in-1 sensors, but I have no clue what the best things are to buy.

However, all of those questions do not belong in this topic, but I also don't want to be 'that guy' that starts flooding the forum with questions that have been asked a 1000 times already ;)

  • Good intentions,  start simple, search the forum or github  if it doesnt work.
Be free to ask if you didn't find,
    but most important:
    Enjoy your  honeymoon together!   <3
And have fun with designing your new house!
