Security for seniors

Hello all,
Recently my grandfather passed away and now my grandmother is all alone. So whenever we go to work, she'll be alone in her home. She's a bit worried and scared to stay alone. So I thought of appointing a caregiver, but she refused. I happened to read an article http://protectionplus.ca/blog/10-security-tips-for-seniors/. Is there any way where I can monitor as well as communicate with my grandmother when I'm out with the help of homey?? She should feel secured and whenever she feels to communicate with me, she should be able to talk with me. Is there any app or system with this requirement? Any help is greatly welcomed. Thanks in advance.

  • Place a couple of these buttons in the house: http://www.fibaro.com/en/the-fibaro-system/the-button And use them to send you an alert (Pushbullet app). Add some smoke sensors, door sensors and multisensors and you can even monitor more..
  • Concetta, Monitoring can be done with Homey, You can use buttons and censors and you can even use a Wifi Camera, and the synology app. so if the button is pressed, or even when you make a help flow, then just saying OK HOMEY HELP would send you a message and activate the camera, and even can mail you pictures..
To communicate directly "two way talking", you could consider to use a RING doorbell, and place that inside, so if she pushes the doorbel you can communicate with her and see her with the ring camera.
Many combinations are possible but even just a wifi camera doorbell like RING could be a start. It all depends on  the budget you have and how much monitoring you would like to have.
  • Same situation here.
I'm trying to convince my mother to wear this: https://www.noodgevallen.com/en/
Does not work with homey, but when she falls it will call or text me (acceleramotor) or other contacts, has a panic button, gps on board en 2-way voice.
    More info in link.
  • Thank you all for your suggestions.. RING door bell seems to be a great idea.. will try it soon. The links seems to be very useful.. Will take a decision today and I'll be here in case of any doubts. Thanks again.
  • I'm using Ring for my frontdoor and I'm very happy with it. No direct link with homey but you can use IFTTT to interact with each other

I use ifttt also but Homey react slow to a webhook. Some times some one ringed my doorbell and 4 minutes later homey makes a sound. (old IFTTT version not the beta)

Do you have this problem to?
  • It was working okay but since last month it's taking a long time indeed 1a 2 minutes. Not really helpfull luckely phone is working fast and still standaard doorbel sound is still working. Now trying to get liveview on my tv someay but havn't managed it yet.
