How to initiate a dimmer process

edited July 2016 in Archive
Hi all,

So with KAKU wall switches and KAKU wall dimmers it is possible to start a dimming flow by clicking the wall switch to on and then hit the on again. The wall dimmer will then go up and down till you lock it by hitting the wall switch again.

Something similar-ish is possible with zwave and/or using a normal wall switch with a zwave behind it by than using the dumb wall switch to activate the dimmer in the zwave.

SO is it possible, and if so how, to use a (kaku/zwave dimmer behind wall switch) to start this dimming process VIA homey :) any thoughts?

You could try to add the dimmer as a normal socket, this way you will have an on (and off) command, and then send the on command while the dimmer is on to see if it dims.

You will lack the dim functionaliteit though.

so for KAKU that should work fine right?
    But how about zwave?

Z-Wave will have to be implemented by @Taco so you could try to bug him for adding it to the z-wave apps.

Well i can see the benefit of behavior like this (like how KAKU and zwave) does the dimming. So hit or hold the wall switch and it will go up/down / up&down in brighness and will set after hitting it again (kaku) or let go (zwave).

but i can imagine that homey /apps might be limited for now on this.
