Car key detection

i think it might not be possible but I'm going to ask anyway

would homey be technically be able to detect car keys? Nowadays a lot of cars have a key that is actually a sort of beacon. Come close to the car and the light are turned on. Have the keys inside the car and you can start the car.

this technology would be perfect to detect who is at home but is homey able to do this?

I'd like to add another idea.
Why not create a carstand on your dashboard for homey, plug in the usb into your radio and let homey say which way were going today. Or use a nfc-tag to start the car. And when you're speeding, homey shows the red ledring.

I hope that won't be possible due to the high encryption that is used between your key and your car. If homey can do it others can do it also and open your car etc. First stop would be to search the internet to see if anyone already has done something similar with your car brand and lets say arduino / raspberry pi.

Another aproach would be to put the keys on homey and see if it's an RFID tag or not. If so you could use that but I guess that the range is to short for youre use case.
  • Maybe it's better to use something like this: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/gigaset-g-tag-oranje/9200000039722091/ It's a Bluetooth beacon.

I have 5 of these lying around: https://www.awarestack.com/index.html
Backed them on Kickstarter, don't really know what to do with them for the moment  :p
Maybe I'll put one in my car (once Homey as BT) since that's what they're made for  :D

I did have seen a guy who added a nfc tag within his BMW car key. With a smart lock on his front door that supports nfc, he could open that with his car key.
