Multiple News-apps

There are three news-apps in the store now, I created an extra one and I see more people creating News-apps. But there's thousands/millions of news-sources more. Some thoughts:

1) I think we need a separate part in the app-store for news-apps
2) Wouldn't it be better to have one app for which we set the RSS-URL?
3) We could make a general app with a list of URL's. For every source someone wants to listen to we could add a device?
4) Or should there be one code-base from which everyone can create apps just by entering a variable in app.json
5) And what shall be do with voice-triggers? General triggers like "news" don't work if you use multiple sources...

I suggested the same. Isn't it possible to make an app where we can add an url or more than one and specify triggers per URL/ subject.
If every programmer that created a news app will help it doesn't have to take tat much time i think.
  • All the responses of the site's then need to be the same...

That's what RSS is for, isn't it? I have some aggregators on company-websites and they all work...
  • Agreed. RSS should be a simple thing to be implemented. It has always a title and an description. The problem here would be that the text should be translated somehow if your homey was set to dutch but the feed was english.

On the other hand. if you know this, as a user, how hard would it be to have homey read all titles of a feed...

If you have some developer knowledge you could install the following application on your homey:

    https://github.com/jjtbsomhorst/homeyrss

I made this one in just over an hour and gives you an action that can be triggered in a flow that will read the first 10 articles of the given feed. I have submitted the app the the store.
