Philips Livingcolors

veekieveekie Member
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to control the Philips Livingcolor (https://www.bol.com/nl/p/philips-livingcolors-aura-tafellamp-led-wit/9200000010035976/) with my homey. However, I am at a loss on how to connect the remote control to Homey. This doesn't seem to work via Infrared, but I can't find any information on what it does use.

Is anyone familiar with this device and able to help?

"Vanaf generatie 2 gebeurt de draadloze aansturing van de lampen via SmartLink, een Philips protocol. De open standaard ZigBee LightLink is hier een doorontwikkeling van. Dit protocol wordt gebruikt in de Hue."
  • LivingColors generation 2 (if i'm not mistaken), support HUE although they are not official HUE labeled. You can include them to the HUE bridge and then use them with Homey. Have 2 of those icw first generation bridge and they work fine with Homey (from the beginning, never had troubles). So first of all you need a HUE bridge and gen 2 livingcolor!
  • Is it possible to get Homey working for the first edition livingcolors?

Maybe it's a stupid question (but since you only mention the remote...) but I suppose you do have a Hue bridge??
  • LivingColors don't come with a Hue bridge as standard, they have a standalone remote (most are round shaped, some old ones are oval). I don't think Homey does and will soon be able to use these lamps without a Hue bridge. Very old versions of Livingcolors (Gen. 1 and early Gen. 2 models) also don't work with a Hue bridge. LivingColors Aura should work with a Hue bridge.
Newer Hue bridges (square with rounded corners) have a chip to work with Apple HomeKit, older ones (round) don't. Both should work for you.
Hue uses Zigbee LightLink, as far as I can tell, LivingColors use a protocol that is proprietary to Philips (SmartLink), also based on 2.4GHz communication.
Now there are also Livingcolors-like lamps that are called 'Friends of Hue', so I guess they are Zigbee LightLink just like Hue lights are...
  • Isn't it possible to register the signal the remote send, and send it through Homey? I've got the first edition of livingcolors for which there is no option to use Philips Hue or similar devices (as far as i could find).

Just turning it on and off would be enough for me. There is no option for listening at the 2.4 ghz and registering the signal that was send?
  • Over here http://www.knutsel.org/tag/livingcolors/ is using a CC2500 chip in combination with Arduino to control Livingcolors. Homey according to https://blog.athom.com/2016/04/17/a-technical-introduction-homey/ uses a CC2530, same as newer generations Livingcolors apparently. Unfortunately, the same guy at knutsel.org says the CC2500 and CC2530 are completely different devices. (http://www.knutsel.org/nl/tag/cc2530-nl/)

    Hey,

I see that the question has not yet been answered unfortunately and so I propose it again.
Is the Philips LivingColors 1st Gen working through the Homey and if so how?

Livingcolors 1st gen can’t be paired with any system.

However if you use Google, someone found a solution with arduino, but it won’t be easy by the looks of it.
