Garage door open detection

I'm looking for a supported way to detect an (partly) opened garagedoor.
My first idea was to utilize a tilt sensor, preferably zwave or zigbeebased , however they are not so easy to find with support for EU frequencies. Someone else already built such detection? Please share your approach!
BTW. I believe the aeotec gen5 solution can do it, but its rather expensive and the reviews in this forum are not so great.
