Support for Sense by Hello

Any chance this device will get supported? https://hello.is/

This is a great sleep monitoring product (also originating from a Kickstarter project) and would be great to have it available as a trigger in Homey as it knows when you start waking up, wake up, go to bed and fall asleep. Also includes other sensors monitoring your room/home's temperature, air quality, light intensity, noise,

Did you already found information about an api or how it could be controlled, that is the first step in looking for a connection. If it's a closed environment then Homey could not connect to it.
  • It's indeed a great device, also backed them on kickstarter. I'm very happy with it and getting the sensor information into homey would be great though I don't think they have an open API :(
  • Yes, it is nice. I have one too and it is a really pretty device to have at your nightstand...

The API isn't published afaik, but I found at least someone that reverse-engineered it at https://www.chameth.com/2016/04/10/sense-api/
Some guy made an implementation at https://github.com/chendo/sense-api.cr but this is a language I don't recognize :)
This is a nicely commented python version: https://notes.pault.ag/hello-sense/ and   https://github.com/paultag/python-sense/blob/master/sense/service.py

It would be nice if an app could be made...

“HELLO” the company behind sense quits/ throws the towel!

This is always were I was afraid of, online service depending products and quitting company’s. Without the service the thing is useless! I hope Athom lives longer then the 3 years of Hello! They are trying to keep the service running, normally this only works if the software is converted to open source. But with those databases full of sleep information is not an easy path to walk...

RWhere did you read this? Website is still online and nothing on the social media as official statement? Would be bad if they would throw the towell into the ring.

    Offtopic:
Athom had the KS with Homey from 28-05-2014 till 27-6-2014 (so three years a company and Homey at home for 1,5 year i guess (the first one))

    Edit:
Found it when i clicked to buy Sense

    Goodbye, Hello.

It’s with a heavy heart that I share with you the news that Hello will soon be shutting down. The past few weeks we have been working hard to find the right home for Sense and we are still focused on that. There will be lots of questions to which I don’t currently have the answers. As soon as I know, I will update everyone. I am sorry for not being able to answer every question immediately, but I will endeavor to do so as fast as possible.

I am incredibly thankful of what the whole team built with Sense, but I am even more honoured to have worked with the team that we built at Hello. I couldn’t have asked to have worked with a more talented group of people and will miss that more than anything. I am also eternally grateful for everyone who has ever used and loved Sense. It was my honour to be able to build something that you welcomed into your lives.

When we first launched Sense, sleep was one of the most neglected part of our lives. Three years later, for many, it is now rightly recognised as perhaps the most important pillar of our health and wellness, alongside exercise and diet. I am incredibly happy that we were able to play a small part in changing the conversation around sleep.

The past few months have been incredibly tough, especially on the team of Hello. For that I’m incredibly sorry.

I would like to thank all of our customers, investors, partners, and team for supporting us through this journey. Hello has been my whole life for five years and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to have travelled with.

    James

    Will Sense shut down?

We are still unsure, but working hard to ensure that it does not.

Will I be able to export all of my data from Sense and/or delete my account?

Yes, an email will go to everyone by the end of the week with instructions.

Will I be able to get a refund?

If you purchased Sense directly from Hello, you we will not be able to refund. If you purchased Sense from a third party, you will be covered by their individual return policy.

  • Yeah, it sucks, guess that's a goner...
Makes me wanna ask Athom again how functional my Homey will be if Athom shuts down.

that's been tested when the athom cloud went down a little while ago. At home everything keeps functioning, only my.athom.com is not working at that moment. Just like when you loose your internet at home, everything keeps working except devices/services that work by the internet/api

    have you read this? https://blog.athom.com/2017/06/04/cloud-magic-behind-homey/
  • That part is known, can anybody who was is able to logon to their homey without an internet connection raise their hand? (And having your bearer token in cache does not count!)
  • I will close the topic, Sense support is stopped and has no Homey app. Discussion that is starting here can be done in a dedicated topic. If this topic needs to be reopened contact me or any other moderator by PM.
