Homey Review on Tweakers.net

Earlier today, a review of Homey is published on tweakers.net (in Dutch): https://tweakers.net/reviews/5111/athom-homey-smarthomehub-van-nederlandse-bodem.html

This complete review is in my opinion a fair and complete review about Homey.

  • Am glad that is ur opinion. I don't think it's fair at all.

You're right, about the speak recognition, I'm not fully agree. In my situation the trigger: Okay Homey works fine.
  • I do think it is a fair review, even though they might not be completely accurate about voice rec. It highlights the current state of Homey and where some of its pitfalls are. It informs potential buyers correctly about what they are getting and in for when they acquire a EUR 300 white sphere with shiny lights. In that regards I believe Tweakers has provided a fair point of view.

With that I do think that they drew the correct conclusion as well, this isn't ready for mainstream yet. There is a lot of potential and a lot has happened since the initial kickstarter, but it is not a magic sphere just yet.
  • Apart frmo the voice-part he really didn't try to understand what cloud-access is used for. People already claiming they don't want to buy Homey because, according to the review, they can't access Homey locally which of course is incorrect...
  • It has been corrected in the article, but damage has already been done apparently...  :/

Well, not entirely true, the real issue mentioned there has been risen earlier: https://forum.athom.com/discussion/1165/local-logon-not-possible-when-there-is-no-internet-connection

You were the first on to agree it needs a redesign, but @emile dodged that one.....
  • Like I said on the tweakers-site, with your bearer-token you can always log in... And @Emile stated on Tweakers that there's an alternative method for logging in without going to Athom's servers?
  • Like said on tweakers, the bearer-token changes after a reset so you need my.athom.com at least once after a reset. So you cannot do without the logon servers.
@emile said 'functionality is build in that if Athom stops, you can do a local setup'

I'd like him to publice that method, so we can test and be sure we can logon to our homeys when Athoms servers are not available (for whatever reason)
