z-wave gateway

Do I need a z-wave gateway to controle a z-wave plug with Homey ?
Or can Homey control the z-wave plugs (and other) by himself (without a gateway) ?
The same for other "Home Hub"s Do I need this or does Homey speaks directly with the plugs, lamps (Hue) and others ?

For the Osram Lightify (Lamp with a Gateway), do I need this Gateway ?
Zigbee is one of the few that can't be controlled directly (like nest and lightify), but might be able tho in the future.
