Axa remote?

I know I know, there is a topic on whether certain devices are supported. But I am quite interested to know whether homey has the capacity of learning the infra red code of a lesser used device like Axa remote, an electronic window lock (http://www.axa-remote.nl) .
I am asking this because this device will likely not be in the existing databases of well known ir-devices.
Hopefully someone can give clarity in this?

    Hi Jonathan,

    I know it's possible to use a Fibaro FGS-221 2*1,5 KW switch to make it z-wave compatible (unfortunately written in Dutch: http://www.robbshop.nl/over-z-wave/z-wave-projecten/axa-raamopenener-via-z-wave-bedienen). But this means adding another €50/€60 to every AXA window opener which makes it quite expensive.

    Also, I understand that homey is able to learn IR codes so I don't think this should be an issue.

    On the other hand, I hope there will be a cheaper (than trough a fibaro switch) but stable solution for the Axa window openers...

    THanks Lesley, for your input. Controlling Axa remote by Z-wave was not really my intention (although could be lot more handy than by IR because IR needs line of sight).
    But I agree that hopefully I can let Homey 'learn' the IR code of Axa.

    I think its so wierd that axa promote domotica in there very own brochures but not show how it is realised.

    For years the window openner has two rj45 sockets which can recieve / intake data and power.

    It must be so easy to achive this, what about this one?

    @ Lennoz, that's actually a pretty good idea! Also less expensive than the regular Fibaro switches.

    The only thing is that the Axa remote 2.0 runs on 220v or 6v DC (4x AA batteries) and the Fibaro binary sensor runs on 12v... Any idea how to solve this problem? Best case scenario for me will be that the Fibaro binary sensor runs on the same 4x AA batteries.

    hi all,
    I've contacted Axa about the 2 RJ45 sockets and they've sent me some instructions on how to use the Axa Remote in domotica environment. Download here. Seems still a bit rough ;)
    Curious if anyone is able to create a Homey 'app' with this documentation.

  • I'm personally thinking about using an ESP8266 module (with alternative firmware) as a "Serial to Wifi bridge" http://fab.cba.mit.edu/classes/863.14/tutorials/Programming/serialwifi.html.
    Simply connect the module to the RJ45 port and one should be able to send commands over Wifi to the AXA Remote over Wifi .
    This would make a very cheap, compact and flexible solution i.e. you can buy these modules for just a few USD, they might even fit into the existing housing of the AXA Remote and you could just adapt the program to your needs or when the commands change.

    However this idea is still on my drawing board/ future plans:
    A) I don’t have any AXA Remotes yet but my intentions are to install 10. This is quite an investment and because they don’t readily integrate with any home domotic system I’m actually still looking for (preferably cheaper) alternatives.
    B) I’m not sure which version of the ESP8266 I need to select AND there are quitea lot of versions, all not very well documented http://www.esp8266.com/wiki/doku.php?id=esp8266-module-family, but the internet is your best friend.
    C) TIME! If I’m going to develop this idea further it is going to take up quite a lot of my time because it’s surely not going to be first time right: More research, module selection (trial and error), developing the driving software, etc.

    If anyone likes this idea too, just send me a message and maybe we could divide the effort (time and money wise) to develop this into a working/ productive solution?
